Competition!

OktoBierFest wouldn't be complete without a little friendly competition! The fun begins with the Masskrugstemmen, or stein-holding contests - one for the women (holding a half-liter mug filled with bier) and then for the men, who have to hoist and hold a full liter of bier in a heavy glass mug.

The Winner! Sally Howes, with an impressive 5 minutes and 23 seconds of brute strength!

Eleven of our female guests stepped up to compete.

Younger competitors had to hold up water instead of bier!

The winner, Dave Weishuhn, with an impressive 4 minutes and 4 seconds, holding over 5 pounds at arm's length.

Eight hearty souls signed up for the tough competition.

And finally...

The last competition is a unique game, invented by our clever hall members. A liter stein mug is filled with bier and then capped with a top containing 6 tubes. Teams of 6 square off to see who can empty the mug first. It usually takes only a few seconds.

Competing this year was Team USA, young competitors who thrilled the crowd last year by knocking off a team of Germans. Up against them came the Old Dudes. What do they say about "Old age and treachery will always beat youth and skill..."? The first round ended in a dead heat tie, so, let's fill them up again!

In the second round, only by a fraction of a second, the Old Dudes were declared the winners.

OktoBierFest Trinkmaschine Contest

Only in Texas! Our clever hall members have invented another bier drinking competition. A liter mug is filled with bier and capped with a top containing 6 tubes. Two teams of 6 then try to out-drink each other and finish the stein first.

This year's contest pitted the young "Team USA" (last year's champions against a German team) against the "Old Dudes", perhaps more seasoned drinkers?

The first round ended in a dead heat tie. Let's go again!

The Old Dudes were declared the winners in the second round.
